Sing with VOICES of Kentuckiana

 2024/25 Membership

VOICES of Kentuckiana is thrilled to celebrate our 31st season! For over three decades, we have championed diversity and inclusion through song, visibility, and partnership. VOICES provides a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community and its supportive allies.

What do I need to know to join? Whether you are a former all-state choir kid or only sing when you are in the shower, you are welcome here. Whether you are a music theory savant or have never read a piece of music, you are welcome here. Our choir is open to all those looking for community and/or an outlet for their creative juices regardless of skill level. You just have to want to be here. We accept members all year (participation in a given concert will be dependent on attending an appropriate number of rehearsals beforehand). You can simply come to one of our rehearsals or reach out to our membership team (info@voicesky.org).

What if I don’t want to sing? We still would love to have you. The choir needs behind the scenes support just as much as we need singers. If you would like to join as a Silent Voice please contact our membership team (info@voicesky.org).

What if I’m really not sure how to read music? We are planning some music education options this year, so don’t let that stop you. We’ll get you where you need to be.

What if I identify as straight? Do you consider yourself an ally? Then come sing with us. We are a big tent organization. As long as you can support our mission, you are welcome to join us.

How much does it cost?  We have two semesters: January-June and August-December. Each season’s dues are $120 or $240 for the year. There is also a $25 refundable music deposit that can be refunded when the music is returned. The choir is committed to ensuring everyone who wants to participate is able to. If the dues are a financial burden the choir has scholarships available. PLEASE DON’T LET MONEY STOP YOU FROM

JOINING.

What should I know when I come? The choir is very friendly. If you are interested a buddy will be assigned to you to guide you through the process. It can be intimidating to show up to a group of people - but we don’t bite! We all had our first rehearsal experience at some point and it is important to us that you feel welcome and safe.

What if I can’t make all the rehearsals? We allow for three excused absences. Additional arrangements can be made for special situations.

So where do I go? We rehearse Sundays from 3:30-6:30 in Room 267 of the University of Louisville School of Music located at 105 W Brandeis Ave, Louisville, KY 40208. Map

Those wanting to sing in the spring concert can join January 19th at the address below, or January 26th at First Unitarian Church on 809 South 4th Street.
